10 interesting things to do in Dublin this weekend

The long-awaited grand stretch has finally arrived, which means that now is the perfect time to come out of hibernation and make the most of your evenings.

The capital is buzzing with events almost every day of the week, whether you're looking for a lunchtime show, a fascinatingly funny tour, a sustainable workshop or a shared reading experience.

Here are just a few of the fantastic events taking place in Dublin this weekend (April 26-28):

1. Slán Solas x Sunflower Sessions

Hosted by Brazillian yoga instructor Allan Müller, Slán Solas events bring attendees into nature for a 'sundown reset'. On Sunday, April 28, the group will head to the Witch's Hat at the top of Killiney Hill to enjoy a breathwork session that has been carefully designed to "reset your nervous system".

Irish singer and songwriter KK Lewis and yoga teacher Mila Gratzer, founders of the Sunflower Sessions, will be joining this event, along with musicians Harry Fennell, Taylor Byrne and Lughaidh Armstrong.

This event is donation-based, and this week the money will aid the Dublin Simon Community.

2. Bewley's Café Theatre

Did you know that Bewley's Café was a hub for lunchtime theatre? Running from Monday, April 8, to Saturday, April 27, the Grafton Street staple will host Leanne Devlin's award-winning show, Slippery When Wet.

The hour-long show tells the story of an actor forced to move back to her parents after running out of work and money. To stay afloat she gets a job as a cleaner in a local supermarket. Just when she thinks she's got a firm footing, love unexpectedly slides into her… workplace.

Aimed at those aged 15 and over, tickets for Friday and Saturday cost €15, while soirée tickets cost €12.

3. Paint Your Own Tote Bag

Hosted by Alternative Dublin, this creative event will be taking place in This Must Be The Place on Wellington Quay.

Although the event takes place on sober premises, it is aimed at those aged 18 and over, and will offer up unlimited tea and biscuits as well as blank tote bags.

Taking place at 5:30pm on Saturday and Sunday, the event costs €19.90 and requires no previous artistic experience.

4. Mindful Weaving Workshop

On Saturday, April 27, textile artist Cristina Nicotra is hosting a hands-on workshop interwoven with meditative practice.

Taking place in Stoneybatter's Project 29, from 10:30am, attendees will learn the basics of weaving while creating their own handwoven coaster using 100% Sardinian wool. The two and a half hour event is aimed at beginners, costs €40, and materials are provided.

5. Hanami Festival

The Hanami Festival is a fun, family-friendly day out which takes place on the grounds of Farmleigh House. The event follows the Japanese tradition of hanami (花見), where friends come together to watch flowers blossom and mark the beginning of Spring.

The event will feature a showcase of musical and dance performances, martial arts demonstrations, seminars, and a variety of traditional arts and crafts. Plus there will be a selection of Japanese foods to enjoy.

The Hanami Festival will take place on Sunday, April 28.

6. Drop-in Drawing with Roxana Manouchehri

On April 28, Iranian artist and curator Roxana Manouchehri will be hosting a drop-in drawing class in the Lecture Theatre of the Chester Beatty Library

Limited to 20 participants, the class is free, requires no booking, and materials will be provided. Suitable for adults and teens of all levels, the class will focus on various drawing techniques including line drawing, shading, perspective, and decoration.

7. Dark Dublin Guided Walking Tour

Recommended by 97% of Tripadvisor travelers, this morbidly funny walking tour could be the perfect way to get to know the dark side of the city.

Lasting two hours, and costing just €19, the experience will deliver an in-person guide to help you explore Dublin's gruesome stories of murder, torture, cannibalism, grave robbing, and much more.

Starting at Barnardo Square and ending in Smithfield, this tour is suitable for those aged 18 and over, and is accessible for wheelchair users.

8. April Storytelling of Irish Myths and Legends

If you enjoyed the stories of The Children of Lir and The Salmon of Knowledge growing up, why not reacquaint yourself with Ireland's famous myths an legends as an adult?

Hosted by Sean Cuddy, the 90-minute session of story-telling will take place at 4pm on Sunday, April 28, in Dublin's Sin é. Attendees will be welcomed to sit back and enjoy an electrifying performance that brings to life the captivating tales of The Cattle Raid of Cooley and The Death of Cu Chulainn, among others.

9. One Dublin One Book

If you don't fancy leaving your couch this weekend, consider settling in with a good book as part of Dublin City Council's reading initiative.

Running for the month of April, One Dublin One Book is led by Dublin City Libraries, and encourages everyone to read a book connected with the capital city every April.

The One Dublin One Book choice for 2024 is Snowflake By Louise Nealon.

10. Glasnevin Food Market

Open every Saturday from 9am - 2pm, the Glasnevin Food Market is carrying on the legacy of the beloved Honest2goodness Market with 17 of its previous stallholders.
