This week on Today with Maura and Dáithí, the glam squad met Roseleen Flaherty, a Galway native who is living in Dublin via New York.
Nominated by her co-workers at the Irish Cancer Society, she had a fascinating life story to share with viewers while enjoying a day of pampering.
Having graduated from Nursing in Galway in 1983, soon after losing her own Mum at a very young age to cancer, Roseleen headed for New York where she worked as an oncology nurse in the Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Centre.
It was in America that she met her husband, Sean, and the two decided that they wanted to come back to Ireland in the late 1990s to get married.
Baby Anthony soon followed along as they made their life in Dublin. Roseleen continued to work in oncology in St Vincent's as a liaison nurse, a role funded by the Irish Cancer Society.
Now working directly for them as a support line nurse, she started to appreciate how all the complementary services and therapies were so beneficial to patients and decided to go back and study as a psychotherapist part-time over the next four years.
These days, she works three days a week, counselling service users with the two days as a support line nurse.
During her time on the show, Roseleen wanted to emphasise how important a role that the organisation is as 42,000 will get a cancer diagnosis in Ireland this year. Providing 28,000 conversations on the support line each year with 15,000 counselling sessions carried out by the cancer society. All these are free and only 5% of funding comes from the government, while the rest is from fundraising.
With Daffodil Day coming on March 22, she wants the message to get out to communities to get together and raise badly needed funds.
The team at Today really wanted to push the boat out for this wonderful woman, so Mark Rogers gave her a beautiful makeup look and as Roseleen has been growing out the colour to her hair, while Pamela Morrissey from Sobe Brown gave her a few highlighted to speed up the process and the most stunning cut.
Her outfit was chosen by stylist Marietta Doran and gifted from New Mood Boutique, Wexford, while Newbridge Silver gifted some stunning jewellery pieces.
Her friend Colette, a Daffodil Nurse, was blown away by the makeover and Roseleen was a little overwhelmed by how special she was treated by everyone. She adored her look and thanked everyone for the amazing day.
