Running from 1-17 of March, it's a festival to celebrate our beautiful national language and give your cúpla focal a go.

No matter what your level of Irish is, this list of events has something for everyone - from a few scúps at a Pop Up Gaeltacht to yoga, bingo, table quizzes and even a bath bomb workshop. Here, gaeilgoir and content creator Éadaoin Fitzmaurice shares her top picks for how to celebrate as Gaeilge this week.

Baile Átha Cliath / Dublin

Na Peirsigh / Persians

Where: Amharclann na Mainistreach / The Abbey Theatre

When: 6 Márta – an 6 Aibreán

Na Peirsigh is an Aeschylus' Greek masterpiece, first performed in 472 BC, that tells the story of a Greek victory, told from the perspective of the losing side. I rith Seachtain na Gaeilge, The Abbey Theatre is bringing a new Irish-language translation by file Nuala Ní Domhnaill to the stage, with English subtitles projected into the set, so that audience members can easily engage with Gaeilge during the performance.

This will be a unique opportunity to see Europe’s oldest surviving play in one of the continent's oldest spoken languages. Ná chaill amach as an deis íontach seo.

Croí le Gaeilge

Where: Aon Scéal Café, Tallaght

When: 10 Márta @ 12pm

Did you know that there is an Irish language café in Tallaght called Aon Scéal? You can bí ag caint as Gaeilge aon am anseo, ach i rith Seachtain na Gaeilge beidh ceardlann ealaíonna ar siúl acú.

The café will be hosting a fun workshop to decorate your very own t-shirt, to share the grá for Gaeilge. There will be a bit of craic agus ceol on the day, as well as goodie bags and face painting. This event is free entry, so no need to book in advance.

Aon Scéal Café, Tallaght

Íoga, sín agus síscéal – Yoga, myth and movement

Where: Yoga Dublin, 28a, Bóthar Dartmouth, D06 R9X5

Dráma LADTA+ Gaeilge: Grindr, Saghdar agus Cher

Where: Axis Theatre, Ballymun

When: 14 Márta @ 7.30pm

Trí mhonalóg. Triúr carachtar LADTA+, Trí dhearcadh ar leith acu ar an saol / Three monologues. Three LGBTQ+ characters. One fateful night in a queer bar… What could happen?

Grindr, Saghdar agus Cher reveals stories that feel relevant san fhíorshaol. Hear tales told as Gaeilge with English subtitles, from a new perspective at the Axis in Ballymun. Produced by AerachAiteachGaelach, this funny and sexy play is one you won't want to miss.

Turas treoraithe ar Chaisleán Ráth Fearnáin

Where: Rathfarnham Castle

When: 9 Márta @ 12pm

If you've never visited Rathfarnham Castle, now is your chance to get a free guided tour, and best of all, beidh an turas trí Ghaeilge. The castle has various rooms to discover, with art exhibitions adding a pop of colour to each one.

The unique castle was built in the 16th century and became the Loftus family home. The grounds are stunning and a great place for a walk, with a playground and tea rooms on site.

An Uaimh / Meath

Pop-up Gaeltacht agus seisiún cheoil

Where: Paddy Fitzsimons Pub, Navan, Co. Meath

One of the best ways to improve a language is to throw yourself in the deep end and surround yourself with fluent speakers. Pop-up Gaeltacht is a fun and casual way to do this. Gaeilgeoirí of all levels – be it líofa or ag tosú amach – gather over a few pints with one shared interest - a bheith ag labhairt le chéile i nGaeilge.

I rith Seachtain na Gaeilge, Irish language speakers will gather at Paddy Fitzsimons on 14th March for a seisiún cheoil and a comhrá.

Cill Dara / Kildare

Féile Sráide 2024

Where: Naas, Co. Kildare

When: 14 Márta @ 2pm

The Naas Féile Sráide is in its third year, with this year promising to have even more entertainment in store for St Patrick's Day. There will be free events for all Irish-speaking levels taking place on the day including grúpaí áitiúla ag seinm, ag canadh is ag damhsa timpeall an bhaile. There will also be poetry, drama performances and a big céilí to wrap up the day.

Corcaigh / Cork

Bath bomb workshop / Caife buama folctha le Lush Cork

Where: Lush Cork

When: 13 Márta @ 6pm

Beidh boladh íontach ag teacht uait tar éis an imeacht seo. Join Lush in Cork for a bath bomb-making workshop, where you'll get to take your 'Toby's Magic Cow’ creation home with you to enjoy.

Beidh cómhra Gaeilge ann, so you can practice your cúpla focal, or even just spend the time listening and getting creative.

Port Láirge / Waterford

Open Mic Event

Where: Ceathrú Cultúrtha, Chathair Phort Láirge

When: 16 Márta @ 11.30am

Beidh ócáid "The Spoken Word/An Focal Labhartha" ar siúl amuigh faoin aer i lár na cathrach. There will be live bilingual poetry readings in the cultural quarter as part of the festivities surrounding St Patrick's Day festival and Seachtain na Gaeilge.

The event is free to attend.

Waterford County Council has a wide range of events happening over the next few weeks to celebrate our national language, including bingo, storytelling and walking tours.

Ciarraí / Kerry

Maggie Mhór

Where: Amharclann Naomh Eoin, Listowel, Co. Kerry, V31 DW21

When: 9 Márta @ 8pm

The Cumann Drámaíochta Chois Fharraige has been running for over 20 years, agus i mbliana to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge, they'll be performing John B. Keane’s Big Maggie, in the famous playwrights’ hometown of Listowel.

This rendition has already been performed across the country, in Inis Oírr, Galway, Cork and Donegal and has been getting great reviews.

Luimneach / Limerick

Scéalaíocht le hEddie Lenihan

Where: Wickham Way, Co. Limerick City

When: 16 Márta @ 6pm

Eddie Lenihan is a well-known storyteller who has been sharing Irish heritage and history for over 50 years. The new-age seanchaí will be sharing bealoideas and folklore in Wickham Way, centered around our amazing past and culture.

Seachtain na Gaeilge is not just about speaking Irish, but also about getting more in touch with our culture, ár n-oidhreact and developing more of an appreciation for the language.

Birdwatching agus siúlóid bithéagsúlachta

Where: Scoil Bhríde Mionloch, Co. na Gaillimhe

Why not try something unqiue this Seachtain na Gaeilge? An Bruach Thoir will be running a birdwatching nature walk where you will learn about the local flora and fauna, as well as brushing up on your Gaeilge with some new terminology.

Sligo murals bike tour

Where: The Model, Sligo

Park run

Park runs are becoming an immensely popular weekend gathering in parks across the country. During Seachtain na Gaeilge there will be park runs as Gaeilge happening across An Clochán Liath, Co. Dhún na nGall, in An Grifín, Co. Bhaile Átha Cliath, i bPáirc Mharlaí, Co. Bhaile Átha Cliath, i nGleann na Trá Móire, Co. Chorcaí, i Leitir Ceanainn, Co. Dhún na nGall, i Sligeach, Co. Shligigh, i gCeatharlach, Co. Cheatharlach agus i nDún Dealgan, Co. Lú.

This is a great opportunity to meet fellow active Gaeilgeoirí and get a 5km under your belt.

Péint, Pádraig agus Prosecco*

A creative St Patrick's celebration is on the cards in Raidió Fáilte in Belfast this year. On arrival, you’ll get a complimentary glass of mulled wine, all your art supplies including naprún, péinteanna, scuabanna agus canbhás and there will also be cheeseboards and snacks.
