The Cavan Town branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (Society of the Musicians of Ireland) played an unexpected gig on Sunday afternoon, showcasing their skills to fellow passengers on an Aer Lingus flight.
The group had been in Kurnach and Wurzburg on an Erasmus program. which followed the path of St. Killian, a native of Cavan, who brought Christianity to that area of Bavaria.
Flying from Frankfurt to Dublin, the group of young teens were returning home from a musical tour when it was announced that the plane would be temporarily stuck on the ground due to weather conditions.
Before long, bodhrans, fiddles, flutes and even an accordion poured from overhead compartments as an impromptu trad session broke out on the tarmac.
As luck would have it, a group of professional content creators and press were on the same flight, returning from a Red Bull event that saw Ireland competing in a global dance competition.
The group of media, including Irish creators including Amanda Adé, Bill Oshafi, Becca Fisher, and Ged Armstrong, as well as RTÉ Lifestyle's Sínann Fetherston, were on hand to capture the magic, with the videos quickly going viral online.
