After two years as a virtual event, RTÉ is delighted to return to the RDS for the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition from Thursday 12th – Saturday 14th of January.
Some 8,000 people attended the RDS today, for the second day of the exhibition. With just one day to go until the winning project is announced, the competition is heating up, as the expert judging panel continues its rounds of assessments.
Students from across the island of Ireland have continued to pitch their projects to more than 80 judges, with expertise in all areas of science and technology. They face the difficult task of deciding who will be crowned the BTYS for 2023.
Speaking about the judging process today, Professor Yseult Freeney, BTYSTE Judge said: "Being a judge at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition is always deeply rewarding due to the calibre of project entries each year, and this year is no different. With just over 24 hours to go until the winner is announced, we as a judging panel have a big and tough decision ahead of us!"
It’s not only the judges who have been impressed by the projects on display at the RDS today. Visitors were able to experience first-hand the awe-inspiring projects for themselves and were also treated to an exciting variety of special acts, including Strong Women Science and Freestyle Physics.
Not only is RTÉ bringing a jam-packed schedule to the RDS over three days, but we will welcome visitors to a brand-new exhibition stand in the Industries Hall.
The ever-popular RTÉ Present the Weather activity returns this year, offering visitors to the brand-new RTÉ stand the opportunity to try their hand at presenting the weather using lights, cameras, autocue and weather graphics.
Some of our RTÉ Weather presenters will be on hand to give some expert support and guidance too, and they might even spot one or two stars of the future.
RTÉ 2FM's Tracy Clifford and Laura Fox will both broadcast their shows live from the RTÉ set, as will Raidió na Gaeltachta’s Bladhaire. Two of RTÉ’s most popular podcasts, Ecolution and Black & Irish will also record episodes live from the RDS.
