How to respond to kids' questions in an age-appropriate way

Parents are the first and most important influences on their children's development, which includes learning about relationships and sexuality.

Research shows that young people who talk with their parents about these issues make better sexual health choices when they become sexually active.

The HSE has a range of booklets and videos to support parents to have ongoing age-appropriate conversations with their children from the earliest years through to young adulthood under the brand 'Making the big talk many small talks'.

This video explores what might be going on behind a young child's question (e.g. 'Where do babies come from'), and how you might respond in an age-appropriate way.

This video is part of a series of nine videos that will be shared weekly on RTE.ie/Lifestyle.
