From the mind of Bobby Aherne (No Monster Club, Trial of the Centurys, D'You Remember Yer Man?) comes Nero’s Class - a surreal, six-part, immersive audio odyssey for kids and grown ups alike.
Comedian Hugh Cooney stars as Professor Nero, a luckless, fuddy-duddy mainlander who finds himself responsible for the education of three unique children on a tiny remote island.
In Mrunglody, folklore is reality, magic is in the air, and lessons are taught in a mystical treehouse. As if teaching the curriculum to Rowan (Rian Sheridan), Jacaranda (Elsie Akinduko) and Scoochie Kaboochie (Penny O’Dwyer) isn’t enough, Nero and his pupils must host a string of unexpected guests.
Comedian Alison Spittle is set to play eccentric entrepreneur Hairbrush Hank, while comic Peter McGann will star as leader of the mainland, Teabag Steve. Other VIP cameos include John Hodgman (The Daily Show, Coraline, Bored To Death, Adventure Time).
Featuring an original soundtrack, an array of special guests, and a brand new take on Irish folklore, Nero's Class is a mind-boggling, madcap adventure for all ages
"Bobby Aherne is an absolute genius," comedian Alison Spittle tells RTÉ Lifestyle. "He's from one of my favourite bands, No Monster Club, and he was in one of my favourite musicals, Trial of the Century, which was a musical about Jedward. When he asked me to get involved, I said 'yes, no problem' straight away. The whole team is very good at what they do and it's nice to see stuff being done for kids."
"Hairbrush Hank is definitely not based on any Irish businessmen," she deadpans, describing her eccentric character. "Totally fictional character. Hairbrush Hank is just a bodacious, stupendous, venture capitalist.
"Business people are always the bad guys in kids' TV shows - for good reason - so I was happy to get into my villainous side for this role."
New episodes air every Monday from October 3rd until November 7th, and are also available on all podcast platforms.
