The Cork festival celebrating Ireland's first female botanist

Nationwide's Anne Cassin visits the Ellen Hutchins Festival in Bantry, Co. Cork.

Looking for a festival that encompasses nature, Ireland's first female botanist, and the beautiful coastline of Bantry Bay?

The Ellen Hutchins Festival takes place in County Cork from Saturday 13th to Sunday 21st August - in honour of Ellen Hutchins, who was born in 1785, and established a reputation as an accomplished botanist, specialising in seaweed.

The story of this remarkable woman remained largely within her family until recent years and now Ellen's great grand-niece has brought it to a wider audience.

Nationwide is on air on RTÉ One at 7pm Mondays, Wednesday & Fridays or catch up on the RTÉ Player.
