Newlyweds take the plunge at the Forty Foot following nuptials

Newlyweds Anita and Dom chatted to Ray D'Arcy on RTÉ Radio 1 after their wedding photos went viral. Listen back above.

Photographed by Derek O'Rourke of Memento Photography, newlyweds Anita and Dom were snapped jumping into the sea holding hands while wearing their full wedding attire.

The adventurous couple were wed in Dún Laoghaire on Saturday and then on Sunday, with their friends and family present, they took a literal plunge into the sea at Dublin's Forty Foot.

Speaking to Ray from their honeymoon in Lisbon, Portugal, the two explained that they are avid sea swimmers and enjoy integrating their chilly hobby into their celebrations.

"We swim in the sea - Forty Foot, Seapoint, Killiney - as much as we can, usually," Anita explains. "Before lockdown, I had a big party [for my] birthday and the next day we all went for a swim and loads of my friends got in who had never been in before, and they were all coming back to Dublin for the wedding."

"Dom had mentioned 'taking the plunge' and I was like, well, if we're going to take the plunge we should really go for it," she added.

How did Dom respond, asks Ray?

"Every day with Anita is an adventure," Dom says of his wife. "I just go along with it."

In terms of practicality, wedding dresses aren't ideal for sea swimming but they do offer up an eye-catching aesthetic.

"It was absolutely hilarious to do it in the wedding dress," says Anita. "It added an extra element of exhilaration that I hadn't felt in years."

"Once you're down in the Forty Foot with a wedding dress on and a suit, everyone wants to know what's going on," she continues, laughing. "They all just stopped and stared, and start saying congratulations. It was really lovely, actually."
