Richie Sadlier launches sex education resource for young people

Psychotherapist and footballer Richie Sadlier, along with psychologist Elaine Byrnes, recently launched SHARE - an online sex education platform to help younger people navigate various areas of sexual health and wellness. Richie joined Louise McSharry on RTÉ 2FM to tell us more - listen back above.

Standing for 'Sexual Health Awareness Relationship Education', the online platform is not limited to just the biology of sex but covers a number of areas including consent, pornography, sexual wellbeing and the impact of alcohol on sexual behaviour.

Working in secondary schools around the country teaching modules on mental health and sexual health alongside Elaine Byrne, Sadlier's conversations with students led him to believe that young people were in need of more resources.

When the two arrived at the decision to go online, they were faced with the momentous task of figuring out exactly what areas needed to be covered.

Pulling from their conversations with young people, the two created bite-size, interactive sections to answer questions like: How can you spot an unhealthy relationship? How do you know which parts of porn are unrealistic? And how do you know for sure if your partner is consenting?

To find out more about the platform, listen back to Louise McSharry on RTÉ 2FM here.
