Earlier this morning, singer and radio presenter Una Healy launched the 2021 Vhi Virtual Women's Mini Marathon at the Rock of Cashel in her home county of Tipperary.
Now in its 39th year, the annual event will take place virtually with the support of the brand-new app. Thanks to this fabulous bit of technology, participants can 'Race the Real Route' and get as close to the real race experience as possible by following the official route of the Mini Marathon in Dublin city.
The event will be open on the app between Friday, 17th and Sunday, 19th of September so that those taking part can do so in a responsible manner during the COVID-19 pandemic. Runners will be able to choose to complete the 10km in one go or divide the course into two 5km races, and will also be able to track their race and log their time via the app.
Registration for the mini marathon is now open on www.vhiwomensminimarathon.ie, and every participant will receive an official race pack, complete with t-shirt and 2021 commemorative medal. Those taking part can also download and personalise their race number to wear while they are completing the race.
Speaking on the event, Una said: "I am delighted to be involved with the 2021 Vhi Virtual Women’s Mini Marathon. It’s great that this special virtual race has been created as this event is such an important one for women all across Ireland.
"While it’s disappointing we can’t run the usual event, we can still build a community together and help raise much needed funds for so many charities by doing it virtually. I can’t wait to get started!"
