A master of improvisation, comedian Tommy Tiernan thrives on the adrenaline of no preparation and shows that bring him to the edge of a cliff. Each week on RTÉ One, the mystery guest format leaves our host with the threat of embarrassment and the possibility of brilliance.
Recorded in the very studio where Tommy made his television debut with Gay Byrne all those years ago, The Tommy Tiernan Show is now in its fifth season. On Saturday show, our host was visited by HIV activist Robbie Lawlor, Social activist Peter McVerry as well as Enniscrone funeral director David McGowan and his daughter Bríd McGowan - you can watch it back here.
Robbie Lawlor joined Tommy on set to discuss the lack of education surrounding HIV, his own personal experience with the virus, as well as the impact it is having both in Ireland and around the globe.
According the activist, HIV rates have never been higher in Ireland than they are right now, and we are one of the highest in Europe per rate by diagnosis. Watch the interview back above.
Watch The Tommy Tiernan Show on Saturdays at 9.30pm on RTÉ One.
