For years we've been sold stories fo celebrities kicking themselves back into shape – with the help of seasoned, very expensive fitness experts – just weeks after giving birth, a narrative that can set an unrealistic standard for the average woman.
But leave it to Katy Perry to debunk all of the celebrity get-fit-quick stories.
The songstress welcomed daughter Daisy Dove with fiancé Orlando Bloom just last week, so she was obviously absent from last night's MTV Video Music Awards. That didn't stop her from sharing her look from the night, spent in at home with her family.
Taking to Instagram stories, she shared a photo of her wearing a pair of high-waisted grey underwear by Frida Mom and a nude nursing bra by Medela featuring two tubes for pumping milk sticking out from the cups.
Just in case you missed that she was in on the joke, she added "Hair and makeup by: @exhaustion".
It's the kind of unfiltered glimpse into motherhood we rarely get, especially from a megastar like Katy Perry. Her stomach still swollen and round, her hair pulled back from her face in a messy low ponytail and no makeup in sight, Perry looked exactly the way you'd imagine a new mother to look.
Typically front and centre at the VMAs, Katy has a long history with the fun and quirky awards show, attending her first one in 2008 – the same year her first album came out. In 2017, she hosted the star-studded event, even taking to the stage at one point with a fake baby in a carrier.
