On this morning's Jennifer Zamparelli Show, Rosanna Davison spoke in her first-ever radio interview since sharing her news yesterday that she and husband Wes are expecting identical twin boys.
The model broke the news on Instagram, writing: "@Wesquirke and I are beyond overjoyed to announce that we're expecting identical twin boys this November. We're absolutely thrilled to complete our family and for our daughter Sophia to have two siblings so close in age to her."
Rosanna had gone through fourteen early miscarriages previously before deciding to have her daughter, Sofia, last year through surrogacy. Now, the mum-to-be says that her twins have come as a lovely surprise.
"It took us by surprise to be honest but it's a lovely surprise as well. As I spoke about it before I was told a couple of years ago that I probably wouldn’t be able to carry my own child due to a suspected immune system dysfunction and I tried all sorts of medical approaches, pretty much everything until we had to go under the surrogacy route, which of course we did last year and welcomed Sofia last November."
"I got pregnant during lockdown," she told Jen. "I can only guess that the bit of rest, the bit of time out from everyday stress and you know and early alarms and travel and work and all those things did me good. And we found out around, it was actually my birthday weekend in mid-April that we found out I was pregnant."
"But I mean, having been pregnant before, I don’t particularly get excited," she continued. "It was only over the next few weeks that I had a lot of early scans. It took three early scans to even detect the second twin hiding in there, so that was quite a shock as well - a happy shock. And then, since then, we have just had this lovely secret."
Rosanna broke the news of her pregnancy during Fertility Awareness Week and says the response she has received online has been nothing short of incredible.
"I'm trying to read through all the messages but I think it might take a few weeks," she told Jen. !I'm just so grateful for the support and the love. I was quite nervous posting about our news yesterday because once it's out there, it's out there. It's real then.
"It was this week last year that we announced that Sofia was on her way so it's been an amazing parallel with the timing between this year and last year," she added.
"We just wanted to give that message of hope to other couples who may have struggled as we did. It's a devastatingly lonely and difficult place to be in when you're desperate for a family and it's just not happening and you're trying every avenue.
"We wanted to show people that, first of all, there are other routes to parenthood whether it be surrogacy or IVF. But then, sometimes, things can take you by surprise. The world works in mysterious ways."
