Whether you want to improve flexibility, tone up your muscles, or live a more zen life; the benefits of yoga seem endless. That being said, we bet you've never considered incorporating it into your daily skincare routine...
As the saying goes, '’be good to your skin because you’ll wear it for the rest of your life’’, and what better way to do that than with regular facial yoga treatments, that can be done in the comfort of your own home?
Aside from it not costing you a cent, facial yoga can boost circulation, which in turn supplies the skin with more oxygen and nutrients. It also improves lymphatic drainage to remove toxins and it’s very relaxing.
"Facial yoga has been around for centuries. It is used to firm and strengthen the facial muscles,’’ says Dublin based skincare specialist Ciara Darcy, Skin Coach. ‘’As with any form of yoga or skincare routine, facial yoga need to be performed regularly to see visible changes.’’
Ciara Darcy Skin Coach gave us a simple step by step guide to facial yoga at home. Watch the video to see 2FM's Emma Power try it out.
The Routine:
- Start with washed hands and cleansed skin
- Sit up straight, relax your shoulders and take a few deep breaths in and out
- Slowly move your neck from side to side, up and down
- Looking into a mirror, use your index and middle finger in circular motion around your jawline working from your chin up to your ears
- This will relieve any tension in the jaw
- Place the pads of your fingers on the apple of your cheeks
- Apply pressure and smile, pulse 8-10 times
- Concentrate on holding your eyes open and not wrinkling your brow - when relaxed nowhere should be furrowed
- Tap around the orbital bone lightly in a fast motion
- Then use two fingers above the brows, apply pressure to this area then lift and frown against the pressure
- Move to the middle of your forehead and repeat 8-10 times
