With the travel restrictions eased from a 2km radius to a 5km one just recently, more people are making the most of what's outside their doors, while keeping socially distant. But if you're looking for inspiration, look no further than Lyla, Freya and Maebh, three sisters who are turning their 2km ramblings into a podcast for RTÉ's Homeschool Hub.

"2K" is a special series made for the Homeschool Hub Podcast, and airs this week. In it, the three sisters set out North, South, East and West of their home during lockdown to find out all they could no further than 2K from Home.

Living in Mayo, they moved from the city only recently "and the difference has been huge", they say.

"It's lovely here in Mayo and you only have to step outside your back door to see something wonderful. We live beside a lake and there's loads of lambs around here and chickens sometimes".

Juggling schooling from home with their new pastimes, Lyla says that a normal day for them includes doing their school work, having a bit of a break and heading down the lane near their house where "there's always a lot of nice wildlife".

"It's amazing what you can see in two kilometres, all the pheasants and deer, lots of different types of birds", Lyla says. "It's sort of hard being out of routine with the coronavirus, but one good thing is now that we get more time, things sort of slow down."

The importance of quiet time is clear, though, as Freya says: "There are sometime when I feel I want to get out, and it can be very annoying ... But I'm lucky that I have a lake beside me so I can get out of the house and walk by the lake and no one follows me!"

The pair have been trying to come up with ways to pass the time, looking into old fashioned games that older people would have played when they were younger. Diving into nature is still a thrill for them, heading out canoeing on the lake.

"You can't really be bored if you have a garden or other things. You can always be doing something."
