For now, we are being asked to keep our distance and to minimise contact with one another because of Covid-19.

This act of social distancing is extremely difficult for all of us because of our strong sense of community, and because we are used to feeling close to each other.

Understandably, this is leaving people feeling lonely and isolated at a time when we really need each other.

What is #ShineYourLight?
RTÉ's #ShineYourLight / #LonraighdoSholas campaign asks that we come together as a country in this time of darkness to shine a light in our homes and show that light really can reach us all.

When is it happening?
#ShineYourLight provides a moment for people to come together and take part in shared action on Saturday, 11th April at 9pm.

You can take part by shining a light that can be seen from your home for all the people who are sick, those who have lost their lives and the loved ones who remain, reminding us that love and hope are always with us.

How can people get involved?
People will be asked at 9pm to #ShineYourLight in isolation from their homes or wherever they are, with their phone torches, by flashing their house lights, leaving a candle in their windows, even using their Christmas lights.

We will ask people to send us pictures of their lights and we will post them to our social accounts using the hashtag #ShineYourLight. This will then be supported across RTÉ's platforms online, on radio and on television.

Local authorities, sporting bodies, government and industry will also #ShineYourLight by lighting up national, international, public and privately-owned buildings.
