Room to Improve is back and better than ever with Ireland's favourite architect, Dermot Bannon, creating diverse and beautiful homes, pushing budgets to their limits, installing glass windows like nobody's business, and inspiring some of the country's funniest tweets.
Not sure where you were going with that for a second there, Adrian… 😳#RoomToImprove pic.twitter.com/bQpMyexIST

Adrian and Yvonne
Dermot had a tall order on his hands last night, as he met with Google Project Manager Adrian and accountant Yvonne Saunders who were set on building their dream house, something they savour a little bit extra as Yvonne is a breast cancer survivor.
Having bought their Rathfarnham home - a detached 1950s two-bedroom property in serious need of an update - they turned to Dermot to help them turn what he called a "Hansel and Gretel house" into a perfect family home for them and their daughter, Lauren.
The house was like something out of a fairytale, if only for its ability to look bigger than it actually was, thanks to the architectural trickery of the building. With an exposed back garden, it lacked any real sense of privacy. If there was one redeeming quality, however, it was the exterior.
We've had pergola already. This week, it was pebble dash that Dermot - and the Dermot-loving nation - fell in love with.
Behold the finished product. The perfect home for Yvonne, Adrian and Lauren… pebbledash and all.#RoomToImprove pic.twitter.com/f8Yd7gNbPK

And so kicked off the great pebble dash war of 2019, with Dermot lobbying for it to be spared from destruction and the couple torn between their love and respect for their architect and their, well, intense dislike of the course exterior.
And that's nothing compared to the agony of deciding whether or not to go with birch plywood in the kitchen. Or indeed Adrian's desire for a changing mural in his office, projected directly onto the wall from his laptop.
And then there was the step issue, with Adrian pushing for the garden to be completely raised to eliminate one step from the back door. And we thought Dermot butting heads with Joe over his shed was dramatic!
As always, Irish Twitter was on hand to document the highs, the lows and the nation's grá for Dermot and his grá for an auld window. Here are the best of the lot:
