Ryan Tubridy's favourite Christmas traditions

Christmas really is just around the corner so, to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year, we sat down with Ryan 'The Toy Man' Tubridy to find out how he spends his Christmas holidays. Watch our chat in the video above.

"The Muppet Christmas Carol is, undoubtedly, one of the most beautiful things. The songs are great, Kermit is an idol of mine - I really mean that - so that's important," says Tubs.

"It's a Wonderful Life is one of the more sad but still beautiful films. Just watching James Stuart in the bar, with tears in his eyes, is too much!"

"As I've gotten older, I've returned to the beautiful classical music. Classic carols of Christmas like Oh, Holy Night and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and those sort of songs.

"I get very wistful and warm with those songs rather than the hammer songs from the Now [That's What I Call Music!] album which were grand but I'm going back to the older stuff."

With a combined love for cinnamon candles, Christmas traditions and literature, it only makes sense that Tubridy would eventually sit down to pen a children's Christmas book of his own.

The First Christmas Jumper and the Sheep who Changed Everything is his latest writing venture - and it tells the story of the very first Christmas jumper and the multi-coloured sheep, named Hilary, that started it all.

"I was blessed with a head that's full of many thoughts - many, many thoughts - and ideas. I'm very rarely bored and if I get bored, I have to fix it very quickly so, with that in mind, this book was written quickly," explained Ryan.

You can find out more about the book, here.
