It's been an emotional, inspirational and uplifting series of Home Rescue, and the finale tonight hammers home the message that no matter how dire the mess in your home is, there's always a stylish and achievable solution.
Tonight's episode features what is possibly the worst example of extreme clutter, the kind that mammies across the country worry incessantly about. Thankfully, it also offers ingenious solutions, showing viewers how to create stylish storage spaces with little cost or effort.
The team decamps one last time to Laytown, Co Meath where they meet avid upcyclers, Trudie, Dan and their sons Ciarán and Connor. The parents have filled their home with upcycling detritus, leaving the family barely any room to move around or relax as they should.
Róisín delves in, tackling the kitchen first in a huge redesign that sees her shift the direction of the dishwasher and removing Dan's beloved computer desk, which is part communications hub, part entertainment system. Heads butt when Dan insists on keeping the desk, leaving Róisín to strategise once again - despite already having removed the wall.
That's only a hint of the work needed, however, as she faces eldest son Ciarán's bedroom, which needs more than just a bit of decluttering.
Ciarán is coping with a degenerative spinal condition that limits his mobility, meaning he can no longer use the wall-mounted bunk bed his dad built for him. This leaves him sleeping on a mattress on the floor. Working with very limited space, Róisín will have to create a design fit for Ciarán’s condition now, and in the future.
As the marathon three-day build nears an end, will Róisín and Peter ever find common ground? Time will tell – and it’s running out fast!
