Broadcast live from the hallowed halls of the Anatomy Museum in Trinity College, Dublin, Growing Up Live has kicked off with an episode as surprising, fascinating and jam-packed as the first few months of parenthood.
As part of the dynamic first episode last night, resident science siblings Deirdre and Ruairi Robertson gave a live demonstration to audience members and viewers on how to test how old your ears are.
The sense of hearing is one of the first senses to develop, with babies already able to not only hear, but recognise their mother's voice in the womb.
However, our hearing declines during our lifetimes, with particular sounds and frequencies dropping as we age. For example, it's a scientific fact that there are frequencies that we can hear in our 20's but not in our 30's, a space of just ten years.
Taking the audience through a range of frequencies, including the "upper range of human chat" and some of the highest frequencies we could possibly detect, Deirdre and Ruairi show just how delicate and varied human hearing is.
The demonstration couldn't be easier, and can be easily replicated with two pieces of paper by watching the video above!
Growing Up, Live airs on the 13th, 14th and 15th of November at 7pm on RTÉ One.
