Christine McConnell, Instagram baker extraordinaire, vintage glamour aficionado and bestie of Dita Von Teese will bring her gothic and glamorous bakes to Netflix this month.

Halloween is possibly the greatest holiday for one reason: no matter who you are or where you come from, for one night you can become anything or anything you've ever wanted, and then repeat the following year. One look people aren't trying on enough, though? Drop-dead gorgeous.

Enter Christine McConnell, Instagram baker extraordinaire, vintage glamour aficionado and Netflix's most recent grab. With her new show, The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell, Christine is sure to temper gory and macabre bakes with old-school Hollywood style and retro whimsy.

The show, which is billed as a comedy baking show, is perhaps best described by Christine herself: "It's like if Morticia Addams stopped in the middle of the movie and started explaining how to bake cookies." What this means is there'll be tutorials for inventive and perplexing treats and as well as a fair amount of ghoulish tricks.

Flanked by her band of creepy familiars, the show will follow Christine as she "fills her home with haunting confections, creepy crafts—and wildly inappropriate creatures", all shot through the vintage house-of-horror aesthetic we've come to expect from her.

Christine has built a huge following with her ghoulish creations

Christine found fame on Instagram, where she took DIY to a whole other level: she makes most of what we see on her account by hand, including furniture, decorations, clothes and, of course, her jaw-dropping bakes. Her look itself is unlike any influencer you'll find online - imagine if Betty Draper merged souls and/or wardrobes with Morticia Adams and threw a party. She's demure, sexy, terrifying and delightful, a true role model for the times we live in.

Her cookbook, Deceptive Desserts: A Lady's Guide to Baking Bad! came out in 2016 and delighted readers everywhere with recipes for cakes that looked like Frankenstein's monster, cinnamon rolls shaped like cobras and the most incredible hummingbird cake you'll ever taste.

Her gothic and glam aesthetic attracted one like mind, in the form of burlesque superstar Dita Von Teese, who frequently materialises out of the haze in her videos and events like the spooky spectre she is.

Her move to Netflix shouldn't come as too much of a surprise to her fans, as in recent months she's become something of a PR darling for movie releases. She worked her magic, creating stunning confections for everything from Tim Burton's Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children to Bohemian Rhapsody, the upcoming Freddy Mercury biopic, and even hosted a lavish murder mystery party for the release of Murder on the Orient Express last year - all entirely on brand for Christine.

The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell will air on Netflix on 12 October. Check out some of her best bakes below!
