As September rolls to a close, hints of Halloween and Christmas are sneaking into conversations across the county. And as the holiday season approaches, so do an array of events, festivals, markets and traditions to be enjoyed.

Unfortunately, most of us have already burned through our annual leave thanks to the amazing heatwave we had this Summer. However, the Irish calendar has done us all a favour and gifted us with three very handy bank holidays this festive season.

Christmas
Have yourself a very merry 11-day holiday this Christmas

If you plan accordingly - and if you work a Monday to Friday job - you can turn just four days of annual leave into an 11-day holiday this Christmas.

The bank holidays:

  • Christmas Day (Tuesday, 25th)
  • St Stephen's Day (Wednesday, 26th)
  • New Year's Day (January, 1st)

The days of Annual Leave:

  • Christmas Eve, 24th
  • Thursday, 27th
  • Friday, 28th
  • New Year's Eve, 31st

By booking off the 24th, 27th, 28th and 31st of December, you can enjoy an 11-day uninterrupted holiday from Friday, 21st of December to Wednesday, 2nd of January.

You can spend those days enjoying Christmas in Ireland or even head off to explore the Christmas markets of Europe.

Happy holidays!
