The new season of Dancing with the Stars has just kicked off and Marty Morrissey is already feeling the effects with an impressive weight loss thanks to the intensive training regime.

Marty told us after the first show last night, Sunday January 7 that he has already lost a significant amount of weight and there are still 11 shows to go. There'll be nothing left of him by the end!

"I've lost about nine or 10 pounds", he told us.

He added: "I didn't realise that until I weighed myself because they had to tuck in a small bit [of his costume] but it was only about that much but like, that's progress for me because it was part of my motivation".

He had an impressive number of fans in the studio for the first episode and no doubt there was a great Marty party afterwards.

He'll need the downtime as he admitted the first show was tough going: "It's kind of an emotional thing, rather than a physical thing at the moment because you're just so relieved...

"I don't want to say it's a brave call but it's a brave call by all of us to try this, to step outside our comfort zone and have a bit of fun"
