Following the untimely death of American rock n' roll singer Tom Petty at 66, we're taking a look back at the artist's life in style and pictures. Since the 1970s, the artist has delivered hit songs ranging from The Waiting and You Got Lucky to I Won't Back Down and Learning to Fly.

Career Highlights
Petty started his career in 1975 when he recorded his debut album with Campbell, Ron Blair and Stan Lynch aka the Heartbreakers. Throughout his career, the singer worked with artists including Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Johnny Cash, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, and Stevie Knicks.

Tom recorded as a solo artist as well as being a member of the Traveling Wilburys, Mudcrutch and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002 and became a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2016.

He was nominated for eleven Grammy Awards, bringing home 'Best Male Rock Vocal Performance' in 1996 and 'Person of the Year' in 2017.

Additionally, he has a George and Ira Gershwin Award for Lifetime Musical Achievement, an ASCAP Golden Note Award, a Billboard Century Award, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers celebrated their 40th anniversary when they closed their summer tour last Monday with three nights at the Hollywood Bowl.

Family Life
Tom's married his first wife, Jane Benyo, in 1974 and the couple had two daughters; Adria Petty in 1974 and Kimberly Violette Petty in 1983. Sadly, in 1996, after an incredible professional year touring the Wildflower album, Tom's marriage came to an end.

In 2001, Petty married Dana York who had a son called Dylan from a previous marriage. It has been reported that the two met at one of his concerts in 1991 but didn't get together until years later. Petty often credited York as "saving him" from his drug addiction.

The pair reportedly tied the knot in a small ceremony in Las Vegas before a second ceremony officiated by music legend Little Richard.

There is no doubt that Tom lived an incredible, albeit all too short, life. Click through our gallery to see the legendary singer's life in style.
