Vogue Williams on single mums 'going it alone'

Model, DJ and TV presenter Vogue Williams returned to our screens last night on RTÉ 2 with her self-titled, three-part, series.Missed it? No worries. You can catch up on RTÉ Player now.

Vogue tackles the subjects of solo mums who have chosen to go it alone through sperm donation, the debilitating effects of anxiety and the latest trend of online ‘sugar dating’.

We spoke to Vogue where she explained why she was so interested in fertility. Watch the video above.

"I recently, when I went through a breakup, thought to myself, what would I do if I never met somebody again, I really want to have children, I need them to be a part of my life, it was always a part of my plan.

"I thought, 'God, if I ever had to, I would go it alone' so now I've been looking into it and the amount of women that do it is just incredible.

"Even looking into fertility, and my own fertility, and just everybody else having fertility problems - the whole show was just really incredible to film."

Last night's episode, titled Vogue: Going it Alone followed the presenter as she tackled an incredibly tough question - could she have a baby alone?

In order to consider this question thoroughly, Vogue met a number of brave women who are single parents and explored the science that has allowed sperm donation to become a choice for the modern woman.

The thirty-one-year-old even went as far as having her own fertility checked while exploring all the options for single parenting as she travels to the world’s largest sperm bank, responsible for over 1,500 Irish babies.

Vogue got a better understanding as to why some men choose to donate when she met sperm donor Ed Houben, who currently has 118 children. Did we mention he will only donate the natural way?
