Youssef Sarhan has a theory about whether or not our phones are listening to our every word. He explained his thoughts to Dave Fanning on The Ryan Tubridy Show.

Dave opened by asking if our smart phones are secretly taping us and sending all our information to the CIA. Youssef thinks it’s possible:

"You have a conversation out loud. I won’t have Googled it or anything like that. It could be a very niche topic and the next time I open one of my social media apps I’ll be targeted with an ad that exactly matches the topic I was talking about"

"It seems oddly coincidental.  It’s happening to me and lots of other people… it’s definitely technically possible."

Youssef explained the technical thinking behind his theory, and Dave then questioned if he was possibly being paranoid.

"It could just be some sort of phenomena that is coming out of this new world that we’re living in and that would be kind of fun.  Like a little mind trick that we have to accept."

"I can’t help but feel that ads are targeted and it’s in the interest of those that are making money off the ads to make sure that they are super relevant to the people that are seeing them"

It’s certainly a topic that gets people talking, and you can listen back to the full interview by listening above.
