Today's heatwave in 11 Tweets #IrishWeather

Let it shine...
Let it shine...

Temperatures are soaring to 28 degrees today in parts of Ireland as the whole country is enjoying a mini heatwave. It took a while but finally the sun came out...Whoop, whoop!

Kids were sent to school with sunscream on and hats, if they'll wear them, as sales of paddling pools went through the roof.

The rest of us are wearing lighter clothes, leaving jackets at home and now after much rain this morning...the sun has come out to play and hopefully stay, for a wee bit anyway.

Met Eireann: "Mostly dry with hazy sunshine this afternoon. A few showers remaining in the N & NE. Warm & humid, 22 to 28 in the east, 18 to 21in the west".

It wasn't always though - the day started off with rain showers in many counties. Twisted Doodles pointed out that the uncertain weather has created a fashionable divide in Dublin: "Today on the way to work Dublin is divided between those who dressed for the rain and those who believed the sunpoclyapse is coming".

And sure it wouldn't be Ireland if we didn't instantly want a bit of cold as soon as it gets hot. Bressie was on the ball, tweeting: "Dear Mother Nature, I am guessing a light breeze is out of the questions. Good hustle though".

This morning though the rain left people feeling a little lost...

Buzz.ie: "WHERE IS THE SUN WE WERE PROMISED?!?! #rain #weather #heatwave"

Rita Whyte: "Well this is awkward. Who invited the rain? #heatwave2017#irishweather"

Daniel Considine was none too happy this morning: "30 seconds out the door to the bus and it lashes. Thank you Irish weather. Hottest day of the year my ass."

There's no doubt about it though, it is warm, with temperatures in the high 20's in many parts of the country and humidity set to reach 73%.

Niall Fitzmaurice: "This heatwave is so intense I can feel the clouds sweating #heatwave2017 #IrishWeather"

As the old saying goes - If you don't like the weather in Ireland, come back in 5 minutes.
