Eva Longoria's co-star Theo Rossi Raves recently raved about the actress to People Now. The two are starring together in new drama Lowriders, which will be in cinemas on Friday, May 12th.

When Theo sat down with the magazine to talk about their new movie, he complimented Eva Longoria by saying:

"She's a total boss."

It seems that working with the actress was a real pleasure for the Sons of Anarchy star so we investigated Eva to find out what makes her so special.

Here are 5 reasons we love Eva...

1. She's an activist

Eva supports a huge variety of social organisations; she is helping to fight issues concerning health, women empowerment, children's safety, immigrants and education.

Aside from that, she founded her own charity called Eva's Heroes back in 2006 to help developmentally disabled children and young adults. Her mission statement on the Heroes website says she aims to "enrich the lives of individuals with intellectual special needs".

"I am blessed with a sister who has special needs. Now, I want to impact the lives of similar young adults nationwide."

The 42-year-old actress also founded the Eva Longoria Foundation, which aims to help Latinas build better futures for themselves and their families through education and entrepreneurship, as they still disproportionately lack educational opportunities and face economic challenges even though they belong to the fastest growing demographic in the US.

The Desperate Housewives star firmly believes that "education is key to economic mobility for women", as she said in her profile interview with MAKERS.

2. She celebrates her roots

Eva told MAKERS that she considers herself to be a Mexican Texan.

"I grew up in Texas, I actually like to call myself Texican, 'cause I am Mexican and American."

Not only is Eva an important spokesperson for the Latin-American community, she gets involved with projects that try to include more of their culture in the American entertainment industry.

Amongst other things, she was an executive producer for the drama-comedy Devious Maids, which follows the lives of four Latina maids and directed an episode of Jane the Virgin, a satirical romantic telenovela.

The television and film roles she takes often reflect her appreciation for her Latin roots and the strong women surrounding her during her childhood:

"I grew up in a large family of powerful women. I've never had to look far for role models - every single woman in my family was educated, independent."

3. She's a fighter

Eva's path to success was a rocky one. You have to be extremely confident and fiercely believe in yourself, even if no one else does. And that's exactly what the Mexican-American does to this day.

"I remember actually entering a beauty pageant in college and telling my mum I'm gonna enter this pageant and she goes 'oh, honey, are you sure you wanna put yourself through that? Like you're not gonna win..'", Eva told MAKERS.

It actually was the beginning of an unbelievable adventure. Eva won first place in the aforementioned beauty pageant and was awarded a trip to Hollywood, where she decided to pursue her acting career.

When her three-year contract for a role on The Young and the Restless was coming to an end, ABC offered her a leading role on a new television pilot, which turned out to be the eight-season-long hit TV-series Desperate housewives where she played the breakthrough role of Gabrielle Solis.

"Everything I've ever done, I was like, 'I want to be the best'. If I'm going to do this, I'm going to put everything into it."

And she keeps doing it. Eva encourages women to be brave enough to step behind the camera and conquer new challenges, as she does.

4. She's all of us

While on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the actress played a round of Fast Family Feud, jumping around on her new couch like a child and constantly showing off her love for food. Eva is one of the most down-to-earth people Hollywood has to offer.

Her Instagram feed is full of delicious looking meals, Snapchat filters and photos showing the actress living life to the fullest - hungry, happy and light-hearted.

Eva even wrote a cookbook in 2011, called Eva's Kitchen: Cooking with Love for Family and Friends to express her love for food and share her favourite recipes with the world.

5. She can do it all

There seems to be nothing the Mexican-American beauty can't do. Not only is she an amazing actress and a stunning model, described as Hollywood's most beautiful woman by magazines like People, but she is a producer, a director and a starry-eyed idealist.

Additionally, she's the proud owner of a restaurant called Beso, she's constantly appearing in advertising campaigns including Pepsi and L'Oréal and, because of her charming personality, Eva is a very popular event host.

But that's not where her skills end. When she hosted the MTV EMA's in 2010 the actress amazed with a hilarious rap to promote the show and her attitude and her hip-hop moves were on point.

If that still doesn't win you over, go ahead and watch her impersonating Nicki Minaj on Comedy Central's Lip Sync Battle. It's simply incredible!

The sky is the limit. And we are so excited to see what Eva does next.
