The thirty-year-old actress has come a long way since a horrible experience...she has decided to share it to show just how important it is to keep on keeping on.
When she sat down with Cosmopolitan, Lea told the story of how she made it. It all started with a horrible audition experience...
"Most of the greatest success I've had in my life came from a door closing, that led me to something incredible."
About a week ago, on April 28th, Lea Michele released her second album Places. The record contains 11 songs including the lead single Love is Alive, which was released in March.
The Glee star is going back to her Broadway roots for Places, which she described as a vocal record that is a little more theatrical. Regarding her tour plans she told The Seattle Times:
"One of my biggest goals for releasing the second record was to jump immediately into touring and performing. It’s where I come from and where I feel the most comfortable. I wanted to have the opportunity to go around and thank my fans for being so supportive."
Inspired by artists such as Celine Dion, and her all time favourite Barbra Streisand, her second album is filled with emotional power ballads and Broadway vibes.
And while her first record Louder was heavily influenced by her emotional state after her on- and off-screen boyfriend and Glee co-star Cory Monteith, passed away, this album is much more representative of her personal self.
When she spoke to Cosmopolitan the singer reflected on her past and explained why she had to fail to become successful:
"I was...dreaming of being in this production of West Side Story, that was coming to Broadway and I worked so hard on the audition - literally I learned Spanish for it!"
But getting the part wasn't supposed to happen to her:
"And I get into the room and before I can even begin - I said maybe one line and they were like 'thank you so much, have a great day' and they escorted me out - and I was gutted."
She had a really hard time to get over this setback: "I went home and I cried so hard - 'what am I gonna do?' - 'this was my dream role'.
"It's hard when you get a lot of no's, you start to just believe that like, that's always gonna be the answer."
But she didn't give up and continued to audition for different parts:
"All it takes is one yes!" And I really believe that it's the universe preparing you for the thing that's going to be the best thing for you in your life."
And then it finally happened...
"Couple weeks later I end up getting cast on Glee, which was the best thing that ever happened to me."
"If they hadn't shut that door on me, then... this dream come true wouldn't have happen."
What she would tell herself if she could go back, you ask? What do you think?
"Don't stop believing!"
Of course!
