John Legend has received a special Social Justice Award and to celebrate the talented singer here are three simple reasons we love the man with the voice of an angel.
The singer-songwriter will be the first recipient to be honored with the Salem Advocate for Social Justice Award for his passionate work on issues related to criminal justice, poverty and education.

1) Art & Activism
The Social Justice Award isn't the first recognition of John's social commitment. He was recently chosen as one of 2017's TIME magazine's 100 most influential people.
In an interview with TIME magazine he revealed his current view on the world:
"If I'd have to describe what's happening in the world right now, I think, there's a real struggle going on between whether fear is going to win or love is going to win."
The Glory singer, who won a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for the accompanying soundtrack to the historical drama Selma, uses his opportunities to contribute to society by shining a light on emotions everyone can relate to:
"I think art has a very important role to play in making us see each other as human and so a lot of what we do as artists, as producers, as content creators, as storytellers is to try to bridge the divide by helping us feel what someone else might feel."
Harry Belafonte honored John Legend in TIME Magazine's short description by saying:
"John uses his platform to push for meaningful social change, and the depth of his commitment is to be admired. He has visited prisons to raise awareness about mass incarceration—the new slavery—and he spoke out about the importance of Black Lives Matter at Sankofa’s Many Rivers to Cross festival [...]."
2) Through Thick & Thin
John and his wife Chrissy Teigen have been a couple for over ten years - and they've been through thick and thin together.
He supported his wife after she gave a very honest statement in her Glamour essay in which she speaks about her struggle with postpartum depression:
"My wife, you know, just wrote very candidly about the things she went through with postpartum depression and dealing with the aftermath of having a child."
"We are very happy in our relationship and very happy to be parents but, like everybody else we're human and we have challenges - so no one should think that our lives are perfect", said John.
Chrissy deeply appreciates her husband's great personality and ability to handle things. She told Glamour:
"I have an incredible husband—John and I have been together for over 10 years. He has seen my successes and failures; I’ve seen his."
She went on to explain how he stuck by her side even when she wasn't her best self:
"He has seen me at my worst, but I will say I don’t think I have ever seen him at his. He’s exactly as compassionate, patient, loving, and understanding as he seems."
