After six seasons, HBO's Girls came to an end. The final episode aired last Sunday, April 16th. The series has won various awards, including two Emmys and a Golden Globe.

With a heavy heart, we are saying goodbye to an emotional, hilarious, honest series and celebrating the amazing Lena Dunham.

Lena is an American writer, producer, director, and actress. The 30-year-old creator of HBO's comedy-drama series Girls was the first woman to win the 'Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing'. But that's just one of the things we love about her...

1. She's upfront.

It's no secret that Lena Dunham speaks her mind, she is straight to the point and loud about it. She has a strong opinion on all the topics that matter - human rights, education, healthcare, feminism and the mindset of our current society. She champions equality for all; regardless of heritage, nationality, religion, gender or sexuality.

At the same time, Lena is popular for being quite provocative because she doesn't stand down on controversial discussions and her response to criticism has been hard-hitting.

Many people find that to be an undesirable characteristic and unappealing but we firmly believe that there must be people out there who use their fame for good and overstep lines in order to make their point clear. Lena is all of that and more.

2. She's anti-bullying
On numerous occasions Lena has had to shut down body shaming trolls. Not long ago she told the ladies of The View:

"You can be, as you say, a 'normal looking girl' and when you move into the room of Hollywood, that in and of itself shocks people."

"And so the fact that I'm considered plus-size or an example of a definitely unorthodox body, I mean, I have to admit it was a very rude awakening the first time I saw people's reactions to the show and I was like, I thought it was pretty banging," Lena said referring to her HBO hit TV-show Girls.

But what's even worse than celebrities, who "signed up for this" being bullied on social media, in Lena's opinion, are the vulnerable teenagers who bully each other to suicide on the internet.

3. She celebrates individuality
As has been pointed out on numerous occasions, Lena doesn't really fit the typical Hollywood stereotype and she's totally good with it. She thinks that it is up to every individual to decide if they want to accept and follow the expectations of society or fight them. Lena is all about pushing social norms to the side and enjoying life to the fullest.

Why struggle to fit in when you were born to stand out?

4. She's a feminist
The word 'feminist' has been on everyone's lips lately. It has been used and abused by the press to either praise or punish everyone from Taylor Swift to Beyoncé Knowles. Luckily,  Lena is a wordsmith who has put her talents to the test in order to make the world see sense.

To be treated, seen or paid differently because of gender doesn't make any sense to her. Not one to sit back and do nothing, Lena created the feminist online newsletter Lenny Letter along with co-show-runner and close friend Jenni Konner.

She explained her thoughts on feminism to Vanity Fair:

5. She's incredibly talented
Lena created the series Girls when she was just 23-years-old. She is a writer, co-producer and co-director on the show and stars as the leading character Hannah Helene Horvath. Her acting is outstanding and her comedic timing is insane.

At 23, this woman made a TV series that projected the frustrations and feeling of her peers while simultaneously making viewers cry and laugh at the same time.

Of course, Girls wasn't Lena's first appearance on screen. She has been a part of various other movies and series before, during and after girls made it to TV.

Aside from that, Lena is also a published writer. Her book Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She's "Learned" came out in 2014 and was received with rave reviews.

We could go on...easily but we said 5 reasons. Yep, she's pretty awesome.
