Wicklow man Ciarán Kelly was living in Vancouver, Canada when he suffered a cardiac arrest on St. Patrick's day which resulted in severe brain damage. His family are calling on the public to help bring the thirty-two-year-old man home.

On March 17th, Ciarán's family received the news of his illness and immediately flew to Canada to stay by his bedside but with hospital bills mounting up to $15,000 a day and holiday visas coming to an end, the family are left with no choice but to return home.

"The stress and worry of what is actually happening is unbearable for us and feels so terribly cruel," Ciarán's sister Emma said.

Currently, Ciaran is breathing unaided but the family are still unsure of how much brain damage has been sustained since suffering from the heart attack.

The Kelly clan are hoping to raise €100,000 to bring Ciaran back to Ireland so he can continue his recovery at home. The support they have received has been astounding and as of today, the amount raised stands at €68,411.

The close-knit Irish community in Vancouver have held fundraisers and rallied together to raise money for the family. Additionally, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help reach the full €100k.

You can donate to the Kelly's Go Fund Me page here.
