Twelve weeks ago, Kerry footballer Aidan O'Mahony partnered up with Estonian pro-dancer Valeria Milova for the show and the two have improved week after week, before finally facing off against Aoibhín Garrihy and her partner Vitali Kozmin; and Denise McCormack and her partner Ryan McShane last night.

Aidan has had a hectic few weeks running up to the final as he and his wife Denise Healy welcomed their baby daughter Lucia into the world less than three weeks ago. As fate would happen, the final episode of Dancing with the Stars fell on Mother's Day.

Aidan told RTÉ that he wanted to dedicate his disco-ball trophy to his wife.

"I have to dedicate it to my wife who is here tonight. She came up after two weeks after having a baby"

Additionally, Aidan says his mother has really enjoyed watching the show.

"She's seventy-eight years of age and you know, this show has given her a new lease of life as well. She loved the football side, that took a back seat and now it's the dancing."

Aidan finished by saying he was looking forward to spending Father's Day at home with his new baby, hopefully wearing a pair of slippers!
