Seachtain na Gaeilge

From the 1st to the 17th of March, RTÉ Player celebrates all things from the Emerald Isle for Seachtain na Gaeilge. Watch Irish language documentary, AERFORT, as it covers the establishment of Cork airport from being labelled ‘the small airport with the big heart’ in the 1980’s to the opening of its trendy new terminal in 2006.

Focusing on the myths and legends of the landscape which we share today with our ancient forbears, Ó Bhéal go Béal looks at the stories captured forever by the school children of the 1930’s from their family members and archived by the Irish Folklore Commission.

Oileán na Naomh tells the story of Caher island (Cathair na Naomh) in Co. Mayo, an island that has been the centre of ancient ritual and pilgrimage. From Cláracha Gaeilge, revealing something of ourselves as a nation and focussing on the passion and exuberance that grips us as we follow our own individual pursuits.

Gliondar – That’ll do Dog! captures some of the characters and charm of the sheepdog community preparing for the National Sheepdog Trials. For sports lovers, follow two young budding jockeys competing in the Dingle Races in Gioddaíup.  All of that and more on RTÉ Player.

What Are You Eating

In a second season of the popular food series What Are You Eating?, Philip Boucher-Hayes continues his journey of discovery into how and what we eat in 21st century Ireland. This time, over six episodes, he serves up twenty-four hours of Irish mealtimes beginning with the pre-gym snack and finishing with a late night takeaway.

Keeping an eye on current trends, he looks at food fashion and fads, tries a lifestyle change by hitting the gym, and finds out how our increasingly busy lives are shaping every single aspect of what we eat and how we think about food and cooking. Chef Hilary O’Hagan-Brennan returns to delve into how some of our favourite foods are made whilst at the Food Lab scientist Billy Coleman reveals some surprising results in a series of scientific tests. About to become a first-time mum of twins, RTÉ News & Weather presenter Sarah Jane Moloney loves being Deaf but despite this, she worries about what her twins will go through if they’re born Deaf and have to face the same barriers she had to work so hard to overcome.

Deaf siblings, Jade and Matthew Visser share their concerns about fitting into a mainstream school, the challenges of making friends and how sparring deaf in Taekwon-do puts them at a distinct advantage. Seán Herlihy is a teacher at a Deaf school in Dublin and believes his Deafness is a gift that allows him to travel the world without language barriers.
