Home of the Year: Declan is blown away by Georgian home

The brand new series of Home of the Year kicks off tonight on RTÉ One at 8:30 pm. In tonight's episode, our judges visit an architectural self-build in County Clare, a re-imagined cottage in south county Dublin and a Georgian apartment in Dublin city.

Over the next eight weeks, interior designer and architect Hugh Wallace, interior designer Deirdre Whelan and architect Declan O'Donnell will travel around the country to explore twenty-one homes that have been designed and built with tender loving care.

Elaine and Ken's architectural self-build in County Clare

On tonight's episode, we visit the home of architect Elaine Bowe, her husband Ken Kennedy and their two children. The family decided to self-build Elaine's own design and after two years of hard work they completed the project in County Clare.

The house is separated into two wings and Elaine describes their style as Scandi-modern with pops of colour and patterns in every room. Will minimalist Declan approve of her designs?

Home of the Year
Pat O'Kelly's 1920's cottage in South County Dublin

In 2013 Pat O'Kelly bought herself a small 1920's cottage in South County Dublin. In order to make modern improvements while keeping the integrity of the cottage, she added a light filled, brick and timber extension.

Pat's personal collection of artwork, furniture and personal belongings bring a very personal touch to the interior design of the cottage and she describes her place as ‘a home for living’. Find out what the experts think of her style on tonight's episode!

Home of the Year
Ed and Esther's Georgian apartment in Dublin city

Esther Gerrard and Ed Coveney live in a beautiful Georgian building in South Dublin City with their three young children. Both Ed and Esther are landscape architects and so the two decided to buy the property from Esther’s brother in 2013 and transformed it from an eighteen bedroom B&B into three seperate apartments.

The family live in an apartment on the ground floor and basement of the house. Stripped back walls and hand restored sash windows are combined with a contemporary marble kitchen and bathroom.
