I'm a dad of three small boys - Thing 1, 2 & 3. Here are some random thoughts on my experience of parenthood so far...
1. Lego is the devil. (I need a bionic foot.)
2. Dried Weetabix is essentially cement.
3. I’ve learned never to cut a sandwich into squares when my kids want triangles. Never.
4. Potty training mixed with bath-time can result in unpleasant floaty 'toys'.
5. Nappies should be sponsored by Kinder Surprise.
6. As soon as I’m woken up I wake up in the morning I count down the hours until the kid’s bedtime.
7. Naming our kids made me realise how many people I don’t like. (I jest, naturally, c'mon!)
8. I’ve noticed huge similarities between how a dog eats food and how my kids eat spaghetti.
9. I sometimes let my kids sleep in their clothes so that I don’t have to change them in the morning.
10. A child should require a license to hold a permanent marker.
11. I sleep like a baby most nights. (My baby never sleeps.)
12. Sometimes I feel more like a boxing referee than a parent.
13. My kids have better clothes than me.
14. I've often helped my kids look for toys that I’ve already thrown out/passed on.
15. Ladders and fridge shelves are one in the same.
16. Thankfully my kids find me funny.
17. Thankfully I find my kids funny.
18. I’m always nice to my kids because I know they’ll be the ones to choose my nursing home.
19. I hope my kids never have to wipe my bum.
20. Cots should have caged roofs. (Again, I jest).
21. A dream feed is when I dream of eating in peace.
22. The bathroom is my personal panic room.
23. Nowadays a shower is like a 5 minute holiday. I’m currently reading waterproof books.
24. Children’s backwash is vile.
25. I adore my kids, even the annoying one(s).
26. I’m very grateful for my wife, family, in-laws and childminder (Thanks Lenny!).
27. Thanks to the above, we escape go out more now as a couple than we ever did.
28. I now drive a bus.
29. I can’t help but feel sad sometimes that my kids are growing up. The little people in my home videos are vanishing before my eyes. Childhood is fleeting.
30. I love being a dad.
