Fans were delighted to meet former footballer Rio Ferdinand at the BT Young Scientist Exhibition in Dublin's RDS.
Dream It, Do It: The Future is in Your Hands - that's the message at this year's BTYSE 2017 where thousands of students attend the annual event which aims inspire young people towards careers in science and technology.
Former professional soccer player Rio Ferdinand headlined a special event yesterday, the opening day of the two-day event, designed to inspire young people from every walk of life to consider careers in science and technology.
The former Manchester United player was in Ireland to represent The Rio Ferdinand Foundation, which aims to encourage and enable young people to tap into their talents, develop critical skills, and reach their potential through education and employment.
Rio was joined by BTYSTE host and broadcaster Aidan Power, Graeme Hackland, IT Director for Williams F1 Racing, and BTYSTE alumni, including software engineer and 2007 winner Abdusalam Abubakar and Emily Duffy, founder of the Duffily Bag.
Students are also getting the opportunity to try out the brand-new RTÉ/Samsung Virtual Reality Experience and to deliver the weather forecast at RTÉ’s perennial favourite, Weather Wannabees.
