If you're anything like us, you were glued to the telly last night when Amy Huberman and Neil Morrissey's new drama Striking Out kicked off on RTÉ One. The first episode was absolutely amazing and we are officially hooked!
In the middle of all the drama and the drop-dead-gorgeous shots of Dublin you probably couldn't help but take a second look at the lovely Ray and think "Hmmm, who's yer man?".
Let us introduce you to the lovely and talented Emmet Byrne.
Emmet has primarily worked on stage but in recent years has appeared in TV shows including Burning Wishes and Red Rock. The actor says he landed his role on Striking Out through the usual casting circles and rounds of auditions.
"I got to the second round and Lisa came over, the director, and she was in the room and I guess she was happy with what she saw.
She actually said something like 'I'll see you on set' as I was leaving which preceded a month of having an existential crisis not sure if I had heard her!"

Twenty-seven-year-old Emmet is clearly wise beyond his years as he describes the depths of his character and how he found his way into the role of Ray.
"You have to look for the reasons for his kindness, for a lot of kind people it usually comes because they've been hurt or they want to be gentle with other people for a reason."
He goes on to say that in acting you need to look at the stereotypes of the character and then pull away from it.
"Never trust anyone unless you know what's wrong with them, so the same goes for the characters".
