Amy Huberman is one of the judges with the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre Student Awards. She joined Kathryn Thomas on RTÉ Radio 1 to discuss.
Kathryn was busy tackling the debate of real tree versus artificial tree at Christmas when Amy joined her in studio and the actress was quick to join the debate asking if fake trees were better for the environment, the options of scent-free trees and if would be possible for Kathryn to get a collection.
Can you have two? Can you sit on the couch and put one on opposite ends of the couch and crawl in under and watch TV every night and sniff the real end?
Amy's infections laugh and quirky humor is undoubtedly the key to her success but she says she didn't always see her self in an acting career and was never an all singing, all dancing performer as a child. Originally, she thought she would end up in story-telling or writing but her love of acting came from speech and drama training and the fun of pretending.
"I was obsessed with Roald Dahl and the magic and the madness".
Luckily, her enthusiasm for acting has only grown with time and this year she is one of the judges with the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre Student Awards. This is the event's forth year running and Amy's third year of involvement and she says it's really gaining momentum among children in both primary and secondary schools.
"The level and the standard that's coming in is quite incredible."

Strangely, the Can't Cope, Won't Cope star only saw acting as a real career possibility after she joined the drama society at UCD and saw so many friends going on to drama school to pursue their big screen dreams. Her first real gig happened at age 22 in TV series On Home Ground co-starring Laurence Kinlan of Love/Hate fame. "He sent me a photo recently, we are actually babies!"
In fact, a lot of Amy's peers have done well for themselves, most notably her long time friend and Bridesmaids star Chris O'Dowd.
"I guess Ireland is such a small country that if they're your peers at some stage you will know some people when they do go on to have success like Chris and loads of people that I know out of college."
