A full-circle rainbow has been captured on video from a 100-metre high viewing deck.

The video showing the full 360-degree rainbow over the Solent was taken on Tuesday on the viewing deck of Portsmouth's Spinnaker Tower.

It was taken as the Hampshire coast returns to normal after Storm Angus had passed through.

Bernie Welch, technical manager at the Emirates Spinnaker Tower, who recorded the video, said: "I was hanging Christmas decorations on our view decks and spotted the rainbow.

"I was amazed as I have worked at the tower for over 11 years and I have never been lucky enough to see one.
"I have only ever heard of one other during that time. I guess I was just in the right place at the right time.

"Our views are pretty incredible anyway but that was a very special sight to see."

A spokeswoman for the attraction explained that rainbows are normally full circles but we normally only see them as arcs because they are interrupted by the horizon.

She added that the height of the viewing platform enabled the whole circle to be seen, as sometimes witnessed by aeroplane pilots.
