Mental Health Ireland

This year is also the 50th Anniversary of Mental Health Ireland which is a voluntary organisation that has been active since 1966 with the aim to “promote positive mental health and wellbeing to all individuals and communities in Ireland”.

At the moment there are 92 Mental Health Associations across the country whose volunteers organise fundraising, outings and events trying to let people aware of the Mental Health’s struggle.

MHI (Mental Health Ireland) are encouraging us all to focus on it this week: "Your mental health is an essential part of your overall wellbeing – being comfortable, healthy and happy.

What is Mental Health?

“ [...] state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.”

Have you ever thought about your Mental Health as something you should take care of?

Health is where the Heart is

The MHI spreads its message through the 5 Ways to Wellbeing:

1. Connect: Good relationships are fundamental for your well-being.

Connect

2. Be Active: The Latin ‘mens sana in corpore sano’, means that your mind will be healthy if also your body is so.

Be Active

3. Take Notice: Be aware of the moment, don’t rush too much. It is important to enjoy the day without stressing so much about the future all the time.

Take Notice

4. Keep Learning: Don’t be lazy, that’s a world out there to discover, and it's beautiful to learn something new everyday!

Keep Learning

5. Give: Being too focused on ourselves makes us self-righteousness…if you’ll start giving to others, you’ll receive back much more than what you think.

Give
