Who are you and what do you do?
Hello we are Richard and Maeve, together we form the imaginatively named; The Raeve Review. Being young professionals by day, we hunt out the best eateries in Cork and Dublin by night and throw our two cents at them.
Why do you do what you do?
It started off as a sort of joke! We set up our Twitter account while on holidays less than a year ago and since then it has grown a nice healthy set of followers. We enjoy trying new places to eat and anywhere that has been recommended. People seem to enjoy what we do, so we will keep showing them where we’ve been wining and dining.
Describe your audience
Our audience are absolutely great, just regular people who are passionate about food and drink. Our followers are always willing to throw some comments suggesting different things on a menu or new venues that have opened up. The Irish food community, I haven’t a bad word to say about them, truly refreshing compared to different fan bases I’ve been subjected to.
What’s your media diet?
- RTÉ Radio One – It’s great for what is on the pulse of Irish life.
- Reddit– For international stories with a nice mix of fun included, ideal for the morning bus commute.
- The Irish Times – A decent news source with a European focus.
Three people you respect?
- Billy Lyons - @CorkBilly a fellow Irish foodie, he’s everywhere and anywhere, giving his honest opinion and views
- Rachel Allen - @rachelallen1 she really set the Irish food industry alight with her simple yet tasty home cooking style, a natural progression from where Darina Allen started.
- Our parents, for the introduction into great Irish food.
What excites you right now and Why?
The future! There are big plans ahead for The Raeve Review, like a new website to share our reviews beyond the 140 character limit!
Proudest post? Finest moment to date? Most embarrassing moment to date?
- Oddly enough our homemade meals get the most love.
- Reaching over 5000 followers in less than a year.
- Thankfully we’ve been embarrassment free so far.
What channels are your fav and why?
Twitter! It’s good for networking in a very casual way. Your views and opinions need to be concise with minimal fluff.
Tell us a secret - something we should know about you?
- Little known fact; Maeve was only until recently a very picky eater, after a year abroad in France her pallet was broadened immensely.
- Richard is on a Monday to Friday basis, a fitness fanatic but his Achilles heel is some tasty meals at the weekend.
What’s the dream?
Our dream, at least initially is to launch our website by 2017, to continue to grow our brand and Twitter following and to break the 10,000 follower mark. Opportunities such as this are a great motivator to keep going with what we’re doing and that people are interested in what we have to say.
Where do we find you?
Currently only on Twitter @TheRaeveReview . There is a website in the pipeline, as mentioned, and we may look at an Instagram account in the near future.
If you would like to feature in our On the Blog series, we'd love to hear from you e: rtelifestyle@rte.ie or follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
