Prior to flying out on her honeymoon, Jenny Greene spoke to Ryan Tubridy on RTÉ Radio 1 before joining her 2fm co-presenter Nicky Byrne to talk about her phenomenal performance with The RTÉ Concert Orchestra at Electric Picnic.
She discussed the build up to the set: "I started crying before I went on..!" and the amazing response she has received following the performance.
When asked to describe the experience, the DJ said “it felt amazing. What’s even better about it was that I knew it was going to be [amazing] so I said it’s only an hour, I’m going to really enjoy this moment”.
Her initial apprehensions about the Rankin’s Wood tent in which she played being “half full, or even a quarter full even” couldn’t be further than what actually happened.
"Just before we went on, we walked toward the tent and we stood backstage with the orchestra with their tuxes and wellies and the tent was full, and full outside again so suddenly we all just looked at each other and went oh god, this is going to be incredible. From start to finish, I just didn’t want it to end."
Nicky asked was there a highlight in the set, to which she replied: "To me, the opening. We opened with a track called SPQR Unlimited Dreams - Hypnotic State and I just think there was something about that moment with the xylophone starting it and Gemma Sugrue was unbelievable, and she actually made the whole thing if I’m being honest."
"It’s hard to pick a highlight of the hour. All of it from start to finish, it was just like you wanted it to slow down.“
It’s clear that the experience was a big deal for Jenny too, as she “started crying before I went on. Thankfully by the time I got on stage it was fine. “
She wasn’t the only one who was emotional as she said: “I think everybody had a few tears afterwards”.
Though her parents were unfortunately unable to witness the set in person, all was not lost as Jenny’s wife Kelly “got herself a prime spot right in front of the stage and live Facebook videoed it so that my Mum and Dad could watch it.”
The DJ summed up the experience in three words; “What a moment”. When asked what's next for the set and whether it was going to go on a nationwide tour, Jenny responded "I'm going on my holidays! ... I'll be back before you know it."
