Ever heard of AeroPress? Us neither but as coffee lovers, we're all ears now. AeroPress is a unique coffee brewing technique that avoids the need to steep or pour extra water through the coffee. It is designed to give maximum flavour with less bitterness and acidity. Makes coffee taste even better? Everyone's a winner.
In April, Bewley's Barista Gary Hollywood was crowned Irish AeroPress Champion and this week, he will compete against 51 baristas from across the globe in a bid to become World AeroPress Champion. The competitors will have five to eight minutes to prepare a perfect 200ml cup of coffee using beans, water and an AeroPress. Their creations will be judge on aroma, flavour, balance and aftertaste.
"I’ve been perfecting my recipe for many months now, altering the amount of coffee, the grind setting, how much water is used and the temperature of the water. I’m pretty confident I have the perfect recipe to win. I’m delighted to be representing both Bewley’s and Ireland and I’ve no doubt that I’ll be up against some tough competition" said Hollywood.
World of Coffee takes place from June 23 to June 25 2016 at the RDS, Dublin.
