Dermot O'Neill met the flamingos in Dublin Zoo - ever wonder why they are so pink?

Dublin Zoo is one of the most popular attractions of the city. Located in Phoenix Park, it welcomes over one million visitors every year. The park is the home for 400 animals but the Zoo also has a lot of interesting vegetation.

RTÉ Guide gardener Dermot O’Neill met Stephen Butler, Curator of Horticulture in Dublin Zoo. His job is to take care of the plants and make sure they all grow as well as possible. He also tries to recreate the natural habitat the animals come from.

The zoo has plants from all over the world and an amazing learning and discovery center, where you can find fossils which are over 300 million years old and a special fossilized alga which is 3.5 billion years old. We don't want to confuse matters though - that's not the one that makes the flamingos turn pink. Watch the vid for more!
