Generation What?

Generation What? is a sociological study of young Irish people between the ages of 18 – 34 years of age based on a questionnaire consisting of 139 questions. You can take the survey at www.generation-what.ie and become part of a landmark project that shines a light on how young Irish people see themselves, how they interact with others and how they approach and tackle the biggest hurdles in their lives.

Your can answer questions from a wide variety of subjects that are divided into five central themes:

Family (parents, siblings, couples, children)
Peers (friends, their generation, youth in general)
Self (the body, sexuality, self-image, feelings)
Society (institutions, values, work, workplace)
The future (for self, for children, dreams, fears)

The questions are designed to help build a coherent and reliable ensemble of material that will then form the basis for two television documentaries that will broadcast in late 2016. Some of the questions are superficial, others profound or playful.

Blending science and education with pure human interest documentary making, these programmes will document the most comprehensive sociological study ever presented of a generation of people who are the primary stakeholders in the future of this country. Generation What? offers a detailed and revelatory perspective on how young Irish people live their lives today.

Generation What? is part of a pan-European project that originated in France, where it generated enormous interest among viewers and the media.
