Since it began Operation Transformation has arguably had an enormous effect on the country's attitude to food, fitness and mental health. The next step? The hit RTÉ TV show is going from seven weeks on air to a year-round affair.
Fans of the programme will be able to find out how their favourite leader is doing on RTÉ Radio 1, on the Ray D'Arcy Show, online on the Operation Transformation website here and on social media* (see below).
"I think this is something that people want," the show's host Kathryn told RTÉ LifeStyle, "It's something that has been talked about and tossed around for the last number of years.
"People want to know what happens to the leaders. Seven weeks is a long time to be involved in the show but such a short time when people get to invested in it. To be able to have a platform to go year round is amazing."
She added: "There are so many events that happen around the country anyway, big public gatherings so for people to be able to meet the leaders, find out how they're doing, keep track of their progress whether it's on the Ray D'Arcy show or online, is [great]."
It's one of those, as Kathryn said: "I don't know why they haven't done it before!"
Everyone has different times of the year when they knuckle down to lose weight, to get fit or get toned ahead of a big event so it will be great to have Operation Transformation to support us all, 12 months of the year.
As for Kathryn: "I think the summer holiday thing is my one. I don't know when I'm going to get a summer holiday this year. Probably November!!
"That's generally my one because that's when you're wearing less clothes."
However, she added: "At the end of the day, I'm not a slave to it. People lose weight for weddings, or whatever and for me, because I've been in the public eye for as long as I have, you're always on show so I never really have a specific time. I try to keep across it throughout the year."
Operation Transformation, the grand finale double bill is on RTÉ from 8.30pm on Wednesday February 24 and Thursday February 25, 2016. We'll find out then the weight of the leaders to date and what their plans for the future are.
