Over 1,200 venues around the country will throw open their doors for free for tours, workshops, readings, performances and demonstrations that will tickle cultural taste buds from Belfast to Kerry and every county in between. From museums to cathedrals and libraries to parks, the country will come alive with all things cultural on Friday.
For the fashion and design enthusiast here’s our top five fashion and design events taking place in Dublin City.
1. The Constant Knitter, 88 Francis Street, Dublin 8:
Enjoy a mini embroidery workshop with Renata Tesu. Renata trained with the Royal School of Needlework in Hampton Court specialising in crewelwork, silk paint, black work and gold work. The workshop will take place in the spacious studio over the shop and all materials will be provided.
2. Design Yard, 25 Frederick Street, Dublin 2:
Visit the exhibition by renowned Irish jewellery designer Inga Reed. Inga’s enduring fascination with nature is at the centre of her work, with a particular interest in the complex organic engineering that underpins animal and plant life. Her pieces have won numerous awards and international acclaim and her 'Orchid' brooch was most recently presented to Camilla Parker Bowles during her visit to Ireland.

3. Grafton Academy of Fashion Design, 6 Herbert Place, Dublin 2:
An evening of live fashion with models showcasing graduate collections where there will be demonstrations of pattern drawing (as above), cutting, sewing and millinery. There will also be drawing and collage workshops which combined with the demonstrations will provide an insight into the professional and part-time courses.
4. Tamp & Stitch, 3 Scarlet Row, Essex Street West, Temple Bar:
This innovative boutique café (as below) has steadily built a loyal following from its base in the Old City, Temple Bar. Their enthusiasm is genuine and infectious.
