Launched by the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, the MyHealth app aims to give ordinary people an alternative to looking up our symptoms online. It features fact-based info on 800 different conditions, and gives tips on where to seek further help and support.
According to a recent survey, one in 20 Google searches is for health-related information, and 81% of Irish adults have turned to the internet to self-diagnose.
While this can lead to misdiagnosis and unwarranted panic and worry, surprisingly, less than half of those surveyed said that it has led to increased stress in their lives.
The MyHealth app, which has up-to-date information on blood supply levels in the country (for anyone thinking about giving blood), as well as a BMI calculator and the latest health news, is free to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
